Diebolt
February 2024, analogue
This was a commission by the Neues Museum Biel to create a portrait of a significant person from the city of Biel for the exhibition „20 Bieler Köpfe“ (20 heads of the city of Biel). The story I was given to depict was that of Anna Diebolt, a woman who was accused of witchcraft and executed in Biel in 1640. Throughout the video the woman falls into the background, as her fate gets taken away from her. The loop symbolizes that this was not an isolated incident.
The foreground and background layers in the video were created analogously using monotype printing and paper silhouettes, which were then combined digitally.
